We had a comment the other day asking how we calculate our net worth, since we do this on a regular basis. Sadly, we currently do it the old fashion way (relatively speaking) of looking up our various accounts online and plugging them into a spreadsheet.
This got me thinking about what other options are out there to do this more automatically. Here are a couple of resources I found:
MSNBC has a calculator that guides you along, and that you can print and save, but it is still a manual process of filling in each category.
Understanding and Controlling your Finances has another resource that basically does the same thing but gives a bit more explanation of each category.
Financial Calculators from KJE Computer Solutions Inc. has another good calculator that is similar to the above two but with a bit better layout.
CNN Money also offers a similar calculator that has an added bonus of a nice pie chart to show you how you compare with others.
I had been hoping to find a resource that would allow us to automatically calculate our net worth, but this seems to be lacking out there on the web. You would think that other online finance resources such as Mint.com would also calculate your net worth, but I haven’t been able to find one that does. It would mean trusting a particular website with all of your financial information, so perhaps that contributes to the lack of a viable tool on the web. Seems like there would be some demand though…
Readers: If you have any good finds for a online resource that calculates your net worth automatically we’d love to hear from you!
Cheers,
Miel
