My PhotoCo-Grand Poobahs Miel and James! Miel works in international development and James is a criminology Ph.D. student in Washington, DC. For more about James and Miel, friend them on Facebook, or follow them on twitter.

A Little Bit About James & Miel:

We are both originally from Oregon. We met when we were teenagers at a hippie gathering in the woods. We hit it off, and eventually met back up again during our late 20’s. We were wed on July 1st, 2006, and have been happy married ever since (the picture is James, Miel and James’ brother).

We are both gainfully employed professionals. Like our profile says, Miel currently works in international development & relief in Africa. James is pursuing a Ph.D. in criminology full time at the University of Maryland at College Park.

We enjoy a wide variety of activities including: movies, jogging, socializing, blogging, cooking, reading, investing, caring for our pets, photography, real estate and travel. Miel likes contemporary folk music and salsa dancing and James enjoys some of the finer varieties of electronica.

We love to hear from readers of our blog, other bloggers, people who like to talk about finance or anyone who wants to say hello. Miel even met a good friend through our blog, so who knows! Here is our email: dinksfinanceblog @ yahoo.com. We added spaces in between the @ symbol to trick the spambots, so you’ll have to take those out before you email us.

While by no means financial experts, we own a variety of assets including real estate and stocks. We’ve both been up to our eyeballs in debt and have made tons of financial mistakes. However, we’ve both successfully retired that debt and we both do learn from our failings. We hope that our voice in this blog can help others in achieving their goals!

Best,

Miel&James

MANAGE YOUR MONEY TOGETHER

Here are some simple guidelines for DINKS to build wealth:

1) Collaborate: Meet regularly to talk about money, set goals together, track and monitor them.

2) Understand and respect your partner. Take time to understand your partners values about money.

3) Watch the numbers. Get a budget, monitor your spending and track your net worth.

4) Max your retirement. Maximize contributions to your tax deferred retirement accounts.

5) Invest in stock. Stocks perform better than bonds or cash.

6) Avoid high interest debt. Credit cards and title loans are financial cancer.

7) Diversify. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
