DINKs Taxes
We believe that one of our greatest contributions as bloggers is to share our experiences in personal finance, particularly as it pertains to couples. In the taxes department we’ve definitely seen that this has made a difference.

We spent time at first, adjusting to taxes as a married couple. Our first joint tax return was 70 pages, so we definitely didn’t start out on the simple side. We discuss our process for doing our taxes, since we managed to pay only 5.6% for our 2007 tax return, I suppose we were doing something right – thanks to the implications of overseas earned income. 1) Collaborate: Meet regularly to talk about money, set goals together, track and monitor them.

2) Understand and respect your partner. Take time to understand your partners values about money.

3) Watch the numbers. Get a budget, monitor your spending and track your net worth.

4) Max your retirement. Maximize contributions to your tax deferred retirement accounts.

5) Invest in stock. Stocks perform better than bonds or cash.

6) Avoid high interest debt. Credit cards and title loans are financial cancer.

7) Diversify. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
